The first such freedom, in my opinion, is when your child finally starts to entertain themselves for more than 5 minutes in a day. That was a major hurdle, and Jared STILL struggles with it! Sleeping through the night should really be first, but I'm talking once they're really past the "baby" stage..
The second little freedom is when your kid(s) are potty trained! For us, it still sucks that Jared will only go #2 at his own house - think about that folks - what does that mean for vacations?! You guessed it.
Another freedom was achieved last week when Jared taught himself how to tie his own shoes!!! It took one demonstration by Chandler, and these awesome aids (below), and he got it! He tied his own shoes before school and he double-knotted his cleats the next day on the way to his t-ball game! Keep in mind that now I'VE actually taught NEITHER of my kids how - Chandler taught himself in kindergarten and now Jared pretty much taught himself, too!

I guess the next freedom will be when they actually don't need me at bedtime (when they're 25, at the rate they're going). It would be sad to have total Mommy Freedom (because they wouldn't need me), but little freedoms like these are nice.
You can add to my "Mommy Freedom" list if you'd like...
